Honesty the Best Policy

From the list of Ten Commandments the Lord gave us to follow, we have the hardest time following "Thou shall not give false witness". Recently I was asked a question that I did not have an answer for at the time. The question was: What is better, a truth that draws a tear or a lie that will bring a smile? I have recently been confronted by the circumstance, and I think I can now give an answer to the question. But, like all answers, there is no such thing as a short answer. Every question we are faced the answer must be earned. No matter how many smiles a lie brings, eventually it will bring a tear. Truth will always set us free, but the more we lie, the more we imprison ourselves. Our lives, our love, our charity and compassion are based on truths. We live by the truth of Jesus Christ, and Yahweh the Father. How can we expect to live our lives any differently? Men and women live by words. Honesty is always the best policy, but why do we have such a hard time in following it? Where do we become confused? Lies leads to loathing, truth leads to love and forgiveness. What is in our hearts that make us question the truth? Is it shame, or is it guilt? I will be conducting further studies on the subject, and I hope to bring clearer answers to these questions. Together we will come to the truth of the matter.
